About me:
|
I've had Type 1 diabetes since I was 7 years old. In September, 2006 AOL asked me to blog on TheDiabetesBlog.com. Throughout my time with AOL I learned a lot, and I've been contacted by many researchers who've enlightened me - to a sobering reality! To change the trend of diabetes we must change the way we treat it. Genetically-modified insulins may not be as safe or effective as Lilly, Novo, and Aventis would like us to believe. Why is GM insulin the ONLY type of insulin sold to people with diabetes? Blood glucose is really NOT the answer to diabetes. C-peptide is an important considerati for BOTH, Type 1 and Type 2. Does your doctor know about the *stimulated* C-peptide test? Have you had one? Type 1 diabetes is caused by inflammation around the beta cells resulting in T-cells destroying them before they can excrete proinsulin (A chain of insulin, B chain of insulin, and C chain of C-peptide). Wouldn't it be nice to reduce the inflammation in the tissues with insulin resistance (Type 2)? Inflammation is the problem -- not blood glucose. Blood glucose is the aftermath of the cause. Treat the cause and you will not have the blood glucose problem. Insulin causes inflammation!! ALL genetically-modified insulins cause / worsen the inflammation. There're more...there's lots more. I'm ready to change this trend. Who's with me?
