After having gone on Novolog & Lantus in November, I've been struggling with establishing a pattern when I go to the gym. The last couple of weeks I've tried everything from not eating before, eating before, using Sport Beans, changing my beverage from water to G2 sports drink with 17 carbs.
I even signed up with my trainer again to get my butt kick started after screwing with my new routine for a couple of months. All seemed to be going well. I even let my guard down a little.
Well, on Saturday, the beast that is Diabetes reminded me not to get too comfortable and made me get down off the treadmill in a rather poor dismount (it would not have been scored well in any competition). I made it to the locker room ok, sat down in front of my locker. My hands were shaking so bad I could hardly open my lock. I got my fancy Diabetes traveling bag out and tried to take my BG. I finally got that done and was surprised to see 42. That's my lowest low and I don't mind saying I was a little freaked out. I had glucose tabs and sport beans in my bag, so I downed a few of each and waited. After about 10 mins, the shaking stopped. I took by BG again and was up to 67. I then proceeded to change and get the hell out of dodge. I stopped at McD's for a cheeseburger and a soda. After about 30 mins, I felt fine.
The only thing I know I did differently is that I actually ate a small lunch before I went. The lunch must have been too small and my 5 units of Novolog was still too fresh by the time I got to the gym.
I know I'm preaching to the choir when I ask if I could just have like 3 days in a row where all the stuff is the same. I'm a real (or at least I was) daily routing kind of guy and this whole diabetes crap is not playing along nicely with that.
