About me: I was medically discharged from the Royal Australian Navy because of the "D", back in May 2002. That is when I met my partner Kath.
I am a Volunteer Firefighter and qualified Rescue Operator, where I use the jaws of life to save people. The funny thing is I can volunteer but because of the "D" I can't be paid!
I play basketball and my new passion is floor ball and I have all the bruises to prove it!

Fletch -
Bernard is right, Australia needs to check-in w/ the 21st Century and some positive Press would be a great way to do it! You put out fires and save lives, you deserve to be paid!
Hang in there and have a great day!

It sounds like Australia needs to catch up with the 21st century. There is some discrimination against folks here for certain jobs, but I think this is on the decrease.

Maybe you need to start getting some press stories written to show what you CAN do despite the D. And perhaps that will get the attention of some Australian legislators. It takes time but people and opinions do change.
