Hi Everyone, I am working full time and going to school part time. I am taking the pre-requisits for the nursing program at Century College and hope to get accepted for Fall of 2009, we'll see though! I have had diabetes for just over 16 years. To manage my diabetes I wear a MiniMed pump with the CGMS and test about 9 times a day (on average, weekends I test a lot less...). I try to blog as often as I can but sometimes only do so about once a month. I still feel new to the whole online community concept but am always encouraged and motivated by what I find.
Thanks for the warm wishes...How long have you had an under active Thyroid? Have you found that medication makes your blood rise? I' consistently having elevated BG's since taking Corteff. I take one full pill then two halves in four hour increments. I see that you from Coon Rapids MN, that seems a world away yet we share the same struggle. Do you have an adequate support system is there a local community that you can look to. I look forward to sharing experiences with you that very few people can relate too ...
My name is Sonia. I have had diabetes since 1960. I am looking for diabetic friends for support. I am on the insulin pump and love it. I am just too busy to take care of myself and that is bad. So I am going to keep in touch with friends I make at this site. I have 3 young adult children - 20, 24 and 27. I have a little grandson named Alex. I also work full time. My dear husband Mike died 6 years ago. It is very difficult without him in my life. Anyway, I must have diabetic friends - in order to get support - I have a problem with not eating properly. I skip meals, etc. etc. then I eat too much peanut butter because I am hungry. Anyway, I know what to do - I just have to do it. I am going to go walking now - it is 9:07 p.m. in Richmond, Virginia. I might find a Wallmart to walk in - smile. Oh yes, is it really harmful to exercise with a high blood sugar - ? If any one knows for sure, please advise. I see all of you beautiful young people with diabetes on this site. Trust me - you deserve a lot of commendation for keeping control of your sugar - it is not an easy life - but if you do it, you will feel so much better. take care and I hope to meet some friends - I will send a picture eventually. Maybe there are some moms out there with type 1 - diabetes out there. Good evening, sonia
Hi, Amber, nice to meet you, too! I noticed that you and my Wife, Gloria, have the same birthday, but she was born just a few years before you. Welcome to the site!
Nice to meet you too, Amber! Thanks for the supportive comment. I totally know what you mean by "bad blood sugar days". Today, mine hovered between 150 and 220 all day long, no matter how much insulin I gave myself. And I know if I were to eat the same food tomorrow and give myself the same amount of insulin, I'd probably see quite a few lows. I wish this disease were much more mathematical, predictable...
Hey Amber! I'm finding alot of people that experienced diagnosis the same way I did. It's crazy to me to think that for the longest time I was total pity party "I'm the only one" compared to the great community I'm a part of now! How do you like the CGMS? I'm leery about trying it, bc I'm not sure about it's reliability...any thoughts?
